PRIMARY 1 PROGRAM
The primary classroom serves children ages three through the kindergarten year. The five day a week program provides the consistency essential to a child’s overall development. The guidelines, schedule and expectations remain constant, allowing a child’s level of comfort, confidence, and enthusiasm to grow daily.
The program is carefully crafted to meet each child’s individual needs rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Children progress at their own pace in a non-competitive environment. They are challenged daily by lessons and materials designed to meet their needs. They develop standards of conduct, courtesy, cooperation, self-control and respect for the rights and opinions of others while developing their own individual abilities, talents and interests.
Classrooms are large, open spaces, framed by open shelves that display a wide variety of carefully sequenced, hands-on learning activities that encourage thought, exploration and creativity. Classes are mixed-age, family like environments where the 3 year old learns from observing older students and the 5 year olds benefit from the chance to be leaders and mentors to their younger peers.
Lesson plans, showing each day’s morning group lesson, are given to parents monthly. This allows parents to have a starting point for discussing their child’s school day.
Activities in the primary classroom cover the following:

• Natural sciences
