Staff

At Stockton Montessori School our teachers are not merely employees, but partners on an important mission. All teachers follow the Montessori philosophy and truly believe in the phrase “the child comes first”.

Our goal is for every student to have a successful learning experience and to gain the tools necessary to carry that success into their futures.

We recognize that each child is unique and learns in their own way. We understand that, for a child, the process of learning is as important as the learning itself.

As teachers, we strive to provide a positive environment, where a child’s opinions are encouraged and valued.

Our teachers are calm, caring , patient, individuals who are responsive to the needs of the children and most importantly, love what they do.

My Favorite Quote

We cannot create observers by saying “observe”, but by giving them the power and the means for this observation; and these means are procured through education of the senses. – Dr. Maria Montessori

Special Moment in My Career

I have great awareness of the power of observation after seeing a young toddler stand at the table with an older class leader. The older child was sewing a pillow. The toddler watched the older child draw a design, stitch the design, see the edges and stuff the pillow. The young child observed for the whole work period. The next day, the toddler asked for lesson in sewing. Watching how powerful observation can be was consequential.

Special Moment in My Career

My special moment was when I walked into a Montessori School without knowing any philosophy behind it. With a wonderful tour from a great director, I was able to come back to the school and observe. As I had observed for a couple of days, I told the director that I want to work there. Make a long story short, I got hired a couple days later.

Working Experience

I have enjoyed working in a Montessori environment for almost 10 years. While observing and fulfilling fieldwork hours for my degree I can safely say that Montessori method is truly the best. The passion I have for education has been driven by the possibilities I have seen and experienced in the Montessori classroom.

My Favorite Quote

“Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment.”

“The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child’s own natural desire to learn.” – Maria Montessori

Special Moment in My Career

In my third year of Montessori education I noticed how a child was fully absorbed on working with word problems. Later that week the child was working on the same lesson and he had ran out of the printed word problems. To our surprise, the child did not wait for the teacher to bring more word problems to him, he got a piece of paper from the paper tray and started to rapidly write on it. When we walked closer to his table to further observe, we could see that he had started to write his own word problem. He had used the printed word problems as a sample to create new problems. We let him continue to do this until it was circle time. That day we asked the children to share what they were working on, and he was able to show everyone his word problems. I was so amazed that when I had a chance alone with him I was able to tell him so. Before leaving he came up to me to say goodbye and handed me one of the word problems he had created. To this day I cherish that piece of paper, I feel like that was my turning point towards pursuing Montessori further.

Special Moment in My Career

I have had the opportunity to work with many wonderful children, staff and parents throughout my career. I have had so many special moments and fun times. I think one of the most special things is some of the parents whose children I have worked with three years ago still stay in touch with me and keep me up to date on their child’s education. The fact that they still remain in contact even though I am no longer in their children’s daily life really means a lot to me.
